Director of Chorus Operations

The Washington Chorus (TWC) seeks a full-time Director of Chorus Operations. The successful candidate will be a detail oriented, self-motivated individual who is confident in their communication skills; able to work with large groups of volunteers effectively and diplomatically; and with at least two years of proven experience in arts management or a related field. Reporting to the Executive Director, and working closely with the Artistic Director, this position is responsible for all aspects of Chorus management, concert production, and operations. This position has some evening and weekend hours. TWC welcomes candidates of all backgrounds, races, religious affiliations, ages, sexual identities, physical abilities, etc. and is committed to inclusivity in the workplace.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Chorus Management

·         Serve as primary point of contact for singers and facilitate regular direct communication

·         Provide operational support to the Artistic Director as needed

·         Attend all rehearsals and performances

·         Maintain master calendar, book all rehearsal spaces, and run auditions

·         Coordinate attendance tracking with Artistic Director and Section Leaders

·         Manage chorus payments

·         Purchase or rent all chorus scores

·         Schedule and engage professional core of singers, and hire accompanists

 

Concert Production

·         Oversee all aspects of production

·         Coordinate all contractual and logistical needs with venues and host organizations

·         Coordinate with orchestra contractor to engage freelance orchestra when required; arrange for instrument rentals, and directly engage instrumentalists as needed

·         Contract and manage independent contractors and guest artists

·         Purchase or rent all orchestral parts and full scores

·         Serve as stage manager for concerts

·         Compile and oversee production of Playbill and other concert programs

·         Submit quarterly reports to ASCAP/BMI

 

Education/Community Engagement

·         Schedule, staff, and manage TWC Connections community engagement performances

·         Coordinate annual high school Side by Side program, identifying schools and handling logistics

·         Manage TWC’s participation in annual DC Honors Chorus weekend

 

 

 

General Office and Operations

·         Participate in TWC’s budgeting process. Budget and track concert and chorus line items

·         Maintain technology, network, copy/fax, and employee Microsoft accounts

·         Manage office supplies

·         Run Gala silent auction and Education Drive

 


SKILLS

·         Bachelor’s degree in a related field required

·         At least 2 years of arts management or related experience highly desirable

·         Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people

·         Creatively problem solve quickly in high pressure situations

·         Ability to multi-task and set priorities

·         Experience with Chorus Connection software and/or Salesforce a plus

 

 

About The Washington Chorus

A two-time Grammy Award winner, The Washington Chorus is a 160-voice, primarily volunteer chorus which presents an annual subscription series at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and other locations in Washington, DC.  TWC regularly performs at the invitation of the National Symphony Orchestra and is frequently featured in other venues such as the Music Center at Strathmore in Maryland and Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Virginia.
