Community Arts Center is looking for an individual with vision and charisma who can develop meaningful relationships with some of the most well-connected cultural leaders in the Williamsport area, the State of Pennsylvania, and the Mid-Atlantic region. Along with the Executive management team, the Director of Development will also contribute to shaping CAC’s strategic growth programs. This experienced arts leader will develop strategy and oversee execution for all areas of the CAC’s fundraising portfolio, including foundation and government grants, individual giving, capital campaigns and special events.
We are looking for a Director of Development with the confidence and experience to chart a course and achieve the following outcomes:
Individual Donors: Significantly expand major gift efforts and cultivation practice. Actively research, identify, cultivate and independently solicit potential donors at all levels, and develop innovative strategies for broadening the organization’s fundraising outreach. Develop and execute strategy to move individual members of our advocacy network up the “ladder of engagement,” increasing our donor base and revenue received.
Stewardship: Develop and implement stewardship initiatives aimed at cultivating deeper ties with and retaining donors.
Community Engagement: Take an active role in the community of Williamsport and surrounding area. Along with the Executive team be a positive and pro-active “face” for the CAC and its constituents.
Events: In association with Executive management and the Board, plan and coordinate special events to build support and raise funds for CAC’s work. Maintain a physical presence at CAC productions and presentations as well as Development events.
Institutional Funders: Plan and implement all application and reporting processes for foundation and government grants.
Strategy/Goal Setting: Determine departmental long-range goals in tandem with management’s overall institutional goals and strategies; addressing dollars to be raised annually and for any capital campaign; benchmarks for growth in dollars raised and relationships; targets for each area of giving; and other development issues. Participate in organizational strategic planning, supporting the evolution of CAC’s core programmatic focus.
Board Development: Provide leadership and staff service to the Board of Directors and Development-related committees to ensure that board members are motivated, prepared, and engaged in carrying out fundraising responsibilities.
Collaboration with other area organizations: Develop strategies and tactics to engage other organizations, with particular emphasis on existing relationships with area colleges/universities, cultural organizations and community businesses.
Coordinate with the Director of Marketing: Ensure integrated marketing and development initiatives, develop materials that are in line with the organization’s brand identity, and capitalize on a growing social media presence.
Information systems and reporting: Build departmental information and technology systems, including prospect tracking, reporting, mailings and on-line fundraising tools. Monitor and report regularly on the progress of development initiatives to Executive management and the Board of Directors.
We are looking for a motivated and committed leader who is enthusiastic about both shaping the next generation of development programs for Community Arts Center and supporting the evolution of the organization through broader strategic planning efforts.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Music, Fine Arts or related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience working in development, with arts/culture/creative industries experience strongly preferred. Related course work or internship experience may be considered.
Proven track record of successful fundraising, including the design and execution of strategies, as well as the effective engagement of key leaders in those strategies
Strategic and creative thinker with the ability to take larger strategy and insights and translate them into ideas and executable plans.
Commitment to arts and culture is essential. Experience with an advocacy and/or arts organization is preferred.
