As a member of the Community & Learning team, the Community Engagement Coordinator is a driving force in the DSO’s commitment to community engagement, education, diversity, and accessibility. The Coordinator specifically administers initiatives and performance opportunities intended to bring DSO musicians into the community and fulfill the DSO’s ambition to be a community-supporting orchestra. S/he coordinates scheduling, musicians, repertoire, contracts, logistics, financial tracking, and production elements for a wide range of community engagement services including chamber recitals, schools, hospitals, senior homes, community centers, and the DSO’s own Wu Family Academy. The Community Engagement Coordinator interacts frequently with community partners, works closely with DSO Musicians, and is a strong link to virtually all other DSO departments.
Implements community performances by DSO Musicians in groups of all sizes and in a wide variety of settings, with the constant goal of simultaneously achieving community impact and artistic excellence while maintaining necessary work conditions. This includes standard operational aspects such as site visits, venue contracts, logistics, and other production needs.
Works closely with Finance and Personnel to track, process and report on invoices, payments, contracts, payroll and other accounting functions related to community engagement services.
Maintains relationships with a wide variety of organizations, performance venues, and key partners in communities representing diversity of ethnicity, age, ability and socioeconomic status and other cultural values, with the goals of community impact and building the DSO’s base of support.
Coordinates individual musician participation in community engagement and works with the Community Engagement Manager to meet all community engagement requirements of the Orchestra’s Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Provides communications across departments to ensure relevant staff have necessary information about community engagement activities.
Occasionally obtains and prepares music for small ensembles and provides information to DSO Librarians for large ensemble repertoire.
Serves as liaison for guest artists and conductors at performances as needed, such as full orchestra Community Concerts and Neighborhood Concerts.
Works closely with and supports the entire Community & Learning team.

Familiarity with symphony orchestras and ability to read music
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Ability to operate in a PC network environment; familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite software and Google online app suite
Ability to work nights and weekends
College or Conservatory degree in Music, Arts Administration, or a closely related field
Professional experience with a symphony or other performing arts organization
