Reports to: President and Vice President of Facilities Classification: Exempt, Regular Full-Time
Oversee that The Huntington’s culture and history is reflected in our cuisine, the level of hospitality and the style of our events. Assure that The Huntington Standard is met for the success of The Huntington’s operational, contractual and financial relationship with OPERATOR, who provides The Huntington’s on-site dining, catering, internal and external event management and facility rental sales including the following:
Dining: Assessing the quality of food, service and cleanliness of Daytime/evening dining at what is currently named the Coffee Shop, Café, Tea Room and Chinese Garden Café and temporary carts and/or pop-up dining for The Huntington’s visitors, members, staff and volunteers during public hours, members only hours and special events.
Event Management: Oversee the decision process for space management of The Huntington’s event locations. Work closely with department heads and the OPERATOR to insure The Huntington’s internal and public programming needs receive priority and are undiminished. Establish a decision framework with OPERATOR for optimal space utilization and effective systems for calendaring internal and external events.
Service Monitoring: Establish, oversee and monitor OPERATOR key performance metrics as it relates to guest/customer satisfaction in all areas, food and beverage quality, service and event standards, food safety and sanitation based on the OPERATOR contractual responsibilities and based on The Huntington Standards. Develop an evaluation instrument to be provided to users to determine effectiveness of service and for continuous improvement.
Facility Oversight: Working with OPERATOR to manage facilities use in keeping with internal expectations to protect and care for the built and natural environment to direct events needing organization and support for sound, lighting, security, with the goal of protecting internal events and facilitating their success. Participate on the facility renovation team to deliver new first class dining and event facilities.
Meeting Catering: Provide oversight with OPERATOR and department heads to provide high quality, cost-effective food and beverage catering for internal day-to-day committees, meetings and conferences.
Weddings: Oversee, manage and facilitate weddings and special occasions taking place at The Huntington.
Financial Monitoring: In partnership with the Finance Division, establish and monitor an effective system for The Huntington’s internal financial analysis of OPERATOR’s services to reasonably insure OPERATOR is meeting or exceeding revenue and earned income goals for The Huntington.
Foodservices and Events:
Manage The Huntington’s relationship with the OPERATOR, including but not limited to financial, operational, service, quality, The Huntington Standards and contractual compliance with/for all aspects of the operations and services.
Assist as necessary to assure that The Huntington staff requests for catering and events management are processed in an efficient, positive and timely manner.
Regularly review daytime and evening dining services and regularly attend internal and external events, to assure that continuous excellent customer service, quality and a high level of professionalism is maintained by OPERATOR and, when applicable, other caterers.
Assure that foodservices and events management are consistent with The Huntington’s mission and standards, particularly in regard to sustainability, extraordinary guest experience and being a good neighbor (San Marino community).
Manage The Huntington’s shared liquor license with the OPERATOR and oversee its compliance.
Stay informed of exhibit plans and public programming to ensure food and beverage and catering/culinary opportunities are maximized. Attend Huntington launch meetings to incorporate dining opportunities.
Provide support to the OPERATOR as needed to assure they are able to operate effectively within The Huntington and with minimal disruption to other Huntington operations.
Assure that financial and operational reporting by the OPERATOR is timely, consistent with contract terms, accurate and meaningful.
Coordinate with The Huntington Store to assure hours of operation and product placement is consistent with retail dining.
Coordinate the OPERATOR interface with The Huntington’s facilities department to assure that Huntington-owned buildings, equipment, fixtures, furnishings and facilities are properly maintained and serviced.
Respond directly to staff for guest feedback for all dining, facility rental and catering services on behalf of The Huntington.
Work with OPERATOR to develop dashboards to present annual revenue, participation (commission discounts, capture rate, customer counts, average check and per capita spending) and net earned income return goals for all dining locations, external catering, group sales and other events.
Coordinate with the OPERATOR and The Huntington department heads to maintain a system for making optimal decisions about space management which balances both internal needs and earned revenue opportunities.
Working with the OPERATOR software, maintain an effective system for reserving and calendaring The Huntington’s public areas during non-public hours.
Represent The Huntington with members, donors, VIP’s, department heads, guests, events planners, events clients, the community and other constituents regarding foodservices and events.
Represent The Huntington with relevant trade associations and community organizations that will help promote dining and facility rental events at The Huntington.

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience), with specialization in business, hospitality and/or foodservices management preferred.
Understanding of and passion for the culinary and hospitality industry and providing an excellent guest experience.
Proven knowledge of retail restaurants, public dining, food and beverage catering of all types, facility rental and event management services, operational policies, vendor management, vendor (OPERATOR) contracts, and budgeting and financial management.
Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, writing and interpersonal skills.
Excellent facilitation, collaboration and negotiation skills.
Excellent skills with spreadsheet analysis and word processing software.
5 – 7 years demonstrated successful experience in foodservices and/or hospitality industry.
5 – 7 years demonstrated successful experience in managing weddings and events.
5 – 7 years demonstrated successful management experience, preferably with a major foodservices and/or hospitality company.
