This position is part of the Institutional Advancement Department and is responsible for managing and growing programs that engage our patrons, the community, K-12 students, adults, teachers, and university-level students and staff. This position works closely with the Development, Marketing, and Artistic departments, manages the Education & Community Engagement Associate and all department volunteers, and works closely with, and reports directly to, the Managing Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Booking, managing, and enhancing all programs for K-12 students (housed under the company’s Goldner Center for Children’s Opera Education), including initiatives such as Concerts in the Classroom, Storytime Series, Opera 101, and the company’s annual Children’s Performance and its interactive lobby activities.
Overseeing, enhancing, and increasing value-added programming for adult audience education, engagement, and development, including initiatives such as pre-show lectures, post-show discussions with the artists, learning series and panel discussions, community concerts, happy hour series, and the company’s Lunch & Learn series for adult education and engagement.
Researching, writing, and editing curriculum-based K-12 study guides, resubmitting curriculum to Palm Beach County’s K-12 Arts Education Administrator, and contributing to all education and community engagement materials for marketing and development initiatives.
Working closely with the Artistic Department and the Education & Community Engagement Associate to secure all artistic needs for education and engagement programs.
Working closely with the Managing Director and marketing team on creation and management of new audience engagement initiatives in the theater lobby during performances.
Assist in promoting and marketing education and engagement activities to potential individual supporters and business partners, and managing company participation in outside community initiatives.
Supervise Education & Community Engagement Associate, and all associated work duties, including managing teaching artists and program volunteers.
Networking in the educational community to enhance Palm Beach Opera’s relationship with school boards, school administrators, and teachers.
Other responsibilities as needed pertaining to education and engagement initiatives.

New Hire Qualifications
Personality: An outgoing, energetic, and enthusiastic storyteller with the ability to listen, interact, and connect with patrons, children, staff, media, and vendors. Dynamic, approachable person, who is personally driven with an entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to embrace new ideas and technology. A hands-on approach with the ability to manage projects from inception to execution, as well as work both independently and in a variety of team settings.
Education and Knowledge: Bachelor's degree required, with advanced degrees a plus. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills a must. Minimum 2-3 years professional experience in arts education, and experience in a supervisory role is required. Our ideal candidate will have proven experience with adult engagement activities, be familiar with the Palm Beach County education system, be a highly organized team player with the ability to multi-task with the ability to manage a changing and varied workload. Knowledge of opera is a big plus.
Equipment Operation: Proficiency in standard business software including Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) a must. Experience with in-house design and email marketing applications a plus.
Work Samples: Candidates must submit relevant work samples including (but not limited to) any relevant study guides, curricula, marketing and promotion collateral, etc.
Physical Requirements: Reliable transportation required. Flexible schedule that will require working some nights and weekends during season (available to attend rehearsals, performances, special events, etc.).
