Position title: Assistant Educator
Position Reports to: Steven Sullivan, Museum director, and Julie Robinson, Museum educator
Hours of Work: 8 hours/week at $8.20/hour
The Hefner Museum of Natural History, Miami University, seeks two assistant educators to participate in developing and executing a grant-funded early childhood education program focused on plants, animals, and ecology. Employee tasks will include ordering materials, preparing materials for professional development workshops, developing and editing outreach educational kits and lessons, participating in workshops, and assisting in various museum tasks. In addition to practical curriculum development experience, several networking opportunities will result. Students will work with Julia Robinson, Director of the Cecilia Berg Center for Environmental Education at the Museum (100 Upham Hall) during the school year as well as the summer.
Requirements for the Assistant Educator position include the following: Prospective employees must possess or be working towards the Early Childhood Environmental Educator Certification or demonstrate experience working with early childhood and a good working knowledge of environmental education. Employees must exhibit good written and oral communication skills, be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and service-minded. Assistant Educators must be available to work 8 hours/week starting December 1, 2016, following the university calendar; note on-site work will be required throughout the summer 2017. Applicants must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and maneuver over uneven ground and in tight aisles. Preference will be given to the applicants that are well-versed in inquiry-based teaching, skilled in Microsoft Office suite, and skilled in manual or computer graphics.
