Position Summary Description

The DSO’s Education Manager develops, coordinates and promotes educational activities that transform lives through unparalleled musical experiences. The Education Manager is part of the community & Learning team and is a significant leader of the DSO’s commitment to being the most accessible orchestra on the planet.

Specific Responsibilities

·         Manages the DSO’s Educational Concert Series (ECS), Super Saturdays, Music Education Professional Development and Community Discovery programs

·         Works closely with the Artistic Operations team to develop orchestral performances and webcasts for the youth that are dynamic, interactive, visually engaging, artistically compelling, and support the goals of the Core Music Standards/National Standards for Music Education

·         Enhances the DSO’s commitment to lifelong learning by developing  new initiatives in early childhood education, professional training, and adult enrichment

·         Improves educational outcomes by refining program design, implementation and evaluation processes

·         Develops marketing collateral, educational materials and distributes communications to teachers and students for the Educational Concert Series, educational outreach initiatives and in-school residencies

·         Utilizes networking and marketing skills to identify, develop and maintain healthy relationships with local and state-wide school administrators and teachers, state music education departments, media and community to secure participation in Education Concert Series performances and to promote and develop partnerships and programs  music education

·         Develops and oversees the full scope of anticipation, engagement and response activities for the DSO’s Discovery initiatives. This includes but is not limited to: Organizing lobby activities for Super Saturdays, Tiny Tots and YPFC performances; assembling, in collaboration with education experts, teacher and parent resource tools; creating and disseminating surveys, focus groups and producing final reports

·         Negotiates fees and manages music education activities for DSO musicians and DSO-sanctioned teaching artists in schools and communities; works with Educational Coordinator and Community Engagement department to schedule Educational Optional Work for DSO musicians

·         Maintains all educational databases. Coordinates and responds to request for information and materials for all DSO educational programs including reports, updates and correspondence requested by internal and external constituencies. As assigned , conducts research related to the educational and outreach programs of DSO

Position Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s level College or Conservatory degree in Music, Music Education, Arts Administration or other Arts Education required; Master’s level of same degrees preferred

·         Minimum of three years’ experience in music education, management or arts administration required

·         Experience in arts education program design preferred

·         Experience working in or collaborating with other arts disciplines (dance, theater, visual art. etc). preferred

·         Experience working with diverse and underserved populations preferred

·         Strong familiarity with Core Music Standards/National Standards for Music Education preferred

·         Strong organization, communication, and problem solving skills are required, as well as the ability to work in a  fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment stakeholders , including musicians, staff, students, families, community members, and leaders in the field

·         Must be able to work variable schedules that includes days, evenings and weekends

·         Ability to operate in a PC network environment and proficiency with all Microsoft Office programs ( including Microsoft Access) and Google online app suite required
