We are a community of students, faculty, and staff who are committed to theatre education that combines scholarship and art. We seek to foster creativity, critical thinking, excellence, and professionalism through the integration of courses, productions, workshops, and other activities. We seek to understand theatre not only as a means of artistic expression and a form of entertainment but as a window onto history, a method of inquiry into all things human, and a vehicle for social change.

Our mission is to advance and support the arts for the benefit of the Kansas City region.
Our vision is a vibrant and thriving community, where the arts are valued by and accessible to all.
The Arts Council is a not-for-profit organization serving the five-county region; including Clay, Platte and Jackson in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte in Kansas. We provide programs and services to arts organizations, artists and the business and civic communities aimed at;
•Increasing funding for the arts and culture from diversified and sustainable sources,
•Increasing awareness of the arts and their impact on quality of life issues in our community,
•And establishing the arts as integral to economic development and other key civic and business initiatives.
The Arts Council serves as the voice for the arts community. We connect and support the arts in the community as a means to create transformation. We believe that the arts are a public good and critical to our region’s success.
Some of our most well known programs include; the ArtsKC Fund, Kansas City’s united arts fund, Art@Work, our corporate arts challenge, Now Showing, a program matching local artists looking to show their work in corporate spaces, and Artist, INC., a professional development program for artists.
However, our programs and services are not limited to just these core initiatives! The Arts Council aims to connect individuals to their arts community by providing detailed information on our website about local arts events and an online directory. In addition, we work with local government and civic leadership to advocate for the arts.
